Below you’ll find details about flights, airport transfer, and hotel recommendations.
Getting there &
being there
What do I need before I arrive?
U.S. and Canadian citizens do not need to obtain a visa prior to arriving in Türkiye, but all visitors require a passport valid for six months after the date of entry
How can I get to Istanbul?
Turkish Airlines has direct flights to Istanbul Airport (IST) from many North American cities including Seattle, LA, NYC and Toronto
Taxis are available on-demand after landing at IST and take cash or credit, while larger and/or more luxurious options can be booked in advance*
*Vendor suggestions to follow, stay tuned
How can I move and communicate in the city?
Yellow cabs can be hailed on the street, by the door staff at hotels, or via Uber or BiTaksi (Turkish Uber). When hailing on the street, anticipate a likely language/pronunciation barrier by having your destination searched for or written down in advance.
Cell service is most conveniently available via eSIM or international package (check with your carrier!). Physical prepaid SIM cards can be purchased at major Turkish cell providers but require an unlocked phone and passport. Free WiFi is available in many establishments and public places.
Anything else?
There is a legal requirement to carry a photo ID at all times while in the country. If you’d rather not carry your passport, it’s suggested to have a digital copy and picture of your entry stamp on your phone.
Credit cards are widely accepted, though cash on hand is recommended
